Former Newcastle United defender Paul Dummett is still in search of a new club following his release from the team during the summer. Nearly two months into the new season, Dummett remains one of the few former first-team players yet to secure a new contract.

The defender, who recently celebrated his 33rd birthday on September 26, has spent time working on his fitness at Newcastle’s Darsley Park training ground since his departure.

Newcastle’s official social media accounts extended birthday wishes to Dummett, acknowledging his contributions to the club. He was released in the summer alongside Kell Watts, Matt Ritchie, Loris Karius, and Jeff Hendrick.

While Watts and Ritchie secured moves to Cambridge United and Portsmouth respectively, Dummett, Hendrick, and Karius continue to be free agents.

Loris Karius, who also parted ways with Newcastle, has ventured into a surprising new direction. The German goalkeeper, who was hoping to secure a move to Italy’s Serie A, has yet to finalize any deal.

In the meantime, Karius has made headlines for a dramatic career shift, stepping into the world of fashion. He was recently seen modeling for German clothing brand Boss during Milan Fashion Week, showcasing his versatility while awaiting his next football opportunity.

Jeff Hendrick, another player released by Newcastle, has not featured for the club since 2021. His recent loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Reading in the Championship were underwhelming, and he remains without a new club.

Hendrick has spent much of the summer sharing glimpses of family time on social media while continuing his search for a team.

Although the summer transfer window has officially closed, free agents like Dummett, Karius, and Hendrick still have opportunities to join new clubs. Teams can register free agents outside the transfer window provided there is space in their squad.

Despite this, Dummett’s rumored reunion with former teammate Matt Ritchie at Portsmouth has yet to materialize, leaving his next move uncertain.

Newcastle, on the other hand, faced frustrations during the summer transfer window. Due to Premier League rules, the club will be unable to sign any additional players, including free agents, until the window reopens in January.

The Magpies have already confirmed a full 25-man squad for the season, which includes five senior goalkeepers. This restriction means Newcastle will need to wait until the next transfer window to address any squad deficiencies, leaving them with limited flexibility until the winter.
