Four Newcastle United targets go public after transfer meeting

Newcastle United are gearing up for a big summer, with plans to allocate a significant portion of their budget to acquiring a new right winger, according to The Athletic.

Recent recruitment talks have put four names in the spotlight: Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise, West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen, Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, and Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville.

While there are undoubtedly other candidates being considered, it’s clear the club aims to upgrade from Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy.

This follows their heavy investment in the left wing over the past two transfer windows, splashing out £80m on Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes.

Olise and Bowen, both proven in the Premier League, would bring substantial quality to the team. Olise reportedly has a release clause under £60m and is highly sought after, especially by the ‘big six’ clubs.

Bowen, who netted 20 goals for the Hammers last season, has been on Newcastle’s radar since his Hull City days. However, his price tag could be hefty, particularly as he approaches his 28th birthday.

Summerville’s link is somewhat unexpected given he primarily plays on the left for Leeds, cutting in on his right. Despite this, he had an impressive season with 21 goals and 10 assists and is likely to leave Elland Road after their failed promotion bid.

Williams, meanwhile, has had a standout season at Athletic Bilbao and has caught the eye of Newcastle scouts over the past two years.

The 21-year-old is set to represent Spain at Euro 2024 after scoring eight goals and providing 17 assists in the 2023/24 season.

In terms of striker options, The Athletic notes that Newcastle previously approached Benjamin Sesko, but the RB Leipzig star seems set to sign with another club.
