Newcastle United are once again being linked with a major move in the transfer market as reports suggest they are leading the race to sign Juventus striker Jonathan David.

David’s time in Italy has not gone entirely to plan. Despite arriving at Juventus with big expectations, he has struggled to fully settle and has managed only five goals in 28 appearances across all competitions this season.
For a striker with his reputation, those numbers have raised questions, and it is understood that the player himself is keen on a fresh challenge. At 26, David feels this is the right moment to test himself in the Premier League, a league he has admired for years and one he believes suits his pace, movement, and work rate.
Juventus signed David on a free transfer from Lille last summer, handing him a five-year contract after beating off strong competition. The Italian giants saw him as a long-term solution in attack, especially after his outstanding spell in France.
During his five seasons at Lille, David scored an impressive 109 goals in 232 appearances, becoming one of the most reliable forwards in Ligue 1. His performances in Europe also caught the eye, particularly last season when he scored seven goals and added two assists in the Champions League, proving he could deliver on the biggest stage.
Despite that pedigree, life in Serie A has been challenging. David went through a difficult run of form, enduring a 16-game goal drought in the league before finally finding the net again in recent back-to-back wins over Sassuolo and Cremonese.
While those goals offered a reminder of his quality, they have not fully silenced speculation about his future, especially with Premier League clubs circling.

Even if his goal numbers in Italy have been modest, his overall game and proven track record suggest he could thrive in England with the right support around him.
Away from the attack, Newcastle could also see changes in other areas of the squad. Club captain Jamaal Lascelles has found minutes hard to come by this season, featuring for just 19 minutes in the league.
With his contract set to expire at the end of the campaign, there is growing belief that a January exit is possible. West Ham are reportedly monitoring the situation and could make a move for the experienced defender as they look to add leadership and depth to their back line.
