Big Newcastle United transfer decision imminent as Magpies assemble emergency recruitment team
Newcastle United have been alerted they face stiff competition in their pursuit of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, having made a fresh enquiry over the weekend for the striker’s services.
Despite Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s history of injuries, including toe, hamstring, and knee issues, Newcastle remains undeterred in their interest. However, Everton has made it clear that securing the 11-times England international will not come easy or cheap.
According to Chronicle Live, both Brentford and West Ham expressed interest in Calvert-Lewin before Newcastle, but Everton continues to evaluate their options. They are hopeful of obtaining the £37 million they have set for the striker.
Over the weekend, it became known that Sean Dyche’s side is also interested in Yankuba Minteh, after Newcastle indicated they were open to offers around £40 million for him.
Minteh’s representatives were informed early in the month that Newcastle was prepared to sell him. While the 19-year-old looked forward to pre-season training, he accepted the reality that staying at Newcastle might not be viable if he wasn’t in the club’s plans. Minteh has stayed fit by training with a personal coach in preparation for the 2024/25 season.
As Newcastle seeks interest in players they are willing to sell, Minteh appears the most likely to leave. Newcastle has also attracted attention from Saudi Arabia’s Pro League for Callum Wilson and West Ham, but negotiations for these deals are still ongoing.
Minteh is open to a move to Everton but has attractive offers from AS Roma, Marseille, and Borussia Dortmund. His agent confirmed over the weekend that personal terms were agreed with one club, leaving Newcastle to make the final decision.
Kieran Trippier’s future at Newcastle is also uncertain, with interest from Saudi Arabia and Bayern Munich. Trippier prefers to stay at Newcastle, and manager Eddie Howe wants to retain him, but bids for Newcastle stars are being considered.
Newcastle’s transfer dealings are complex this summer, but Eddie Howe, Andy Howe, and head of recruitment Steve Nickson, who are working together as an emergency transfer team in the absence of a sporting director, are optimistic about making significant progress before the pre-season.
