Newcastle United have received the latest update on Sandro Tonali’s transfer situation as speculation continues about the Italian midfielder’s future. Reports from Italy suggest that Serie A giants Juventus are keeping a close eye on the 25-year-old, who has quickly become a central figure for Eddie Howe’s side since arriving from AC Milan in the summer of 2023.

Tonali, who signed a contract extension with Newcastle until 2029 with an option for an additional year, has been pivotal in their midfield, combining creativity, energy, and leadership.

Despite his importance at St James’ Park, whispers of a potential return to Italy have not gone away. Tonali has made it clear that he is committed to Newcastle, particularly after the club supported him during a difficult period involving a ban from football related to betting offences.

Nonetheless, clubs like Juventus and AC Milan have both been mentioned as potential suitors, with Juventus reportedly seeing him as their long-term solution to strengthen their midfield engine.

Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb claim that while Juventus considers Tonali their priority for next season, they are also exploring short-term alternatives.

West Ham’s experienced midfielder Guido Rodriguez has emerged as a potential candidate, with a suggested fee of around £9 million believed to be enough to convince the Hammers to part ways with the 31-year-old.

Juventus appear willing to invest heavily to secure Tonali, but Newcastle have made it clear that the club is not actively looking to sell their midfield star, and any deal would require significant investment.

Tonali’s form this season has not consistently matched the levels he reached last year, when he played a key role in Newcastle winning the Carabao Cup and qualifying for the Champions League. Eddie Howe has acknowledged that while Tonali has shown flashes of brilliance in certain matches, he has yet to reach the same consistent heights.

Howe commented, “This season, for whatever reason, he’s not quite hit those levels, but we are working with him to get back there. We have seen games where he has performed really well, and in-game there’s been moments where he has absolutely been at his best, but it’s that consistency level that we will focus on.”

Despite the ongoing speculation, Tonali himself has remained focused on Newcastle and is taking his future one year at a time. Speaking in November, he said, “I don’t want to say I want to stay here 10 years and in two years, three years, four years [or] five years I will go. I want to think, just for me, year for year.

This is football. The last summer was tough for us, for Alex [Isak], but this is football. If you have an option for your life, for another team you need to think about everything. I don’t want to say ‘Yes, I want to stay here 10 years,’ but now I’m happy here. I don’t think about another team.”

For Newcastle, keeping Tonali at St James’ Park remains a priority. The club is aware of his talent and influence, both as a creative force in midfield and as a figure capable of leading by example.

While Juventus may continue to monitor the situation and consider financial offers, Newcastle appear confident in their ability to retain the midfielder for the foreseeable future, ensuring their ambitions in the Premier League and European competitions remain intact.

Tonali’s commitment, combined with Eddie Howe’s guidance, could see the Italian midfielder regain his peak form and continue playing a pivotal role in the Magpies’ rise over the coming seasons.
