Newcastle make decision on future of £40M mainstay after recent Arsenal links

Newcastle United have made their stance very clear ahead of the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

The club will not consider selling Anthony Gordon, no matter the size of the bid, with the 24-year-old England international seen as a vital part of their long-term plans.

Reports suggest the Magpies have shut the door completely on any approach for the winger, just as they have done for Bruno Guimaraes, another key figure in Eddie Howe’s project.

Gordon’s name has been mentioned repeatedly in the transfer market since his breakthrough years at Everton, and Arsenal were once strongly linked with a move.

Yet, as things stand, the Gunners’ attention seems to have shifted elsewhere. Their recent signings of Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze have strengthened their attacking options, making a swoop for Gordon less likely this summer.

Liverpool have also been reported admirers, though talks between the clubs have remained complicated because of the ongoing saga around Alexander Isak’s potential move to Anfield. Regardless of external interest, Newcastle’s message has been consistent: Gordon is not for sale.

Since arriving at St James’ Park in January 2023, in a deal worth £40 million plus £5 million in add-ons, Gordon has developed into one of the Premier League’s most exciting young talents.

A native of Liverpool, he came through the Everton academy before sealing his switch to Tyneside, a move that at the time raised eyebrows due to the high fee.

However, in less than three years, the winger has justified every penny of Newcastle’s investment. His energy, pace, and direct style of play have quickly made him a regular starter, while his ability to create and score goals has been crucial in helping the team compete at the highest level.

Now 24, Gordon has already racked up more than 100 appearances for Newcastle, contributing 22 goals and 23 assists in that time. His consistency and versatility have allowed him to play across the front line, giving Howe the kind of flexibility managers crave in modern football.

Just as importantly, his growth has reflected Newcastle’s own rise, as the club continues to strengthen its position in the Premier League and in Europe.

It is not surprising that Gordon’s progress has caught the attention of big clubs across the continent. Arsenal, Liverpool, and even other European sides have monitored his development closely.

But Newcastle are determined to resist every approach. With uncertainty already surrounding Isak, who has been pushing for a move to Liverpool, the Magpies cannot afford to weaken their squad any further by losing another of their star players.

Gordon’s commitment to the club also plays a role in the decision, with the player himself settled and motivated to continue his journey at St James’ Park.

The refusal to sell Gordon sends a strong message about Newcastle’s ambitions. They are no longer a club willing to cash in on top talent but one determined to build around it.

By keeping their core players, they aim to cement themselves among the Premier League elite. With the new season underway and challenges ahead on both domestic and European fronts, the Magpies know that players like Gordon will be essential in maintaining momentum.

For all the speculation linking him with a move away, Newcastle’s stance has left little room for doubt. Anthony Gordon is going nowhere this summer, and his future, at least for now, remains firmly in black and white.
