Newcastle in talks over two signings – but have firmly decided two players can leave
Newcastle United is actively strengthening their squad for the upcoming season with formal approaches for both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Max Kilman.
At the same time, they are considering offers for Yankuba Minteh and are prepared to offload Callum Wilson in a series of significant summer changes.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin Future
Newcastle United has initiated formal talks with Everton regarding Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The club is hopeful that a deal can be finalized soon.
Calvert-Lewin, who is entering the last year of his contract with Everton, has expressed interest in joining Newcastle.
Despite Everton’s attempts to secure his future with new offers, Calvert-Lewin remains hesitant due to concerns over Everton’s current direction and ongoing takeover efforts.
Newcastle has admired Calvert-Lewin for several seasons, considering multiple moves for the England international. With the striker valued at approximately £35 million during his peak, Newcastle hopes to secure a cut-price deal.
Calvert-Lewin has made 247 appearances for Everton, scoring 68 goals since his senior debut in 2016. Although recent seasons have been marred by injuries, he was fit for most of last season, contributing significantly to Everton’s survival with four goals in the final seven games.
Newcastle’s pursuit of Max Kilman is driven by their need to bolster their defensive lineup. Despite securing Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth, the team missed out on Tosin Adarabioyo, who opted to join Chelsea.
With Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles set to miss the early part of the season due to cruciate ligament injuries, Newcastle views Kilman as a vital addition.
Talks with Wolverhampton Wanderers have included a proposed offer involving both cash and a potential transfer of midfielder Elliot Anderson to the Midlands.
However, no agreement has been reached yet, and negotiations are ongoing, with West Ham also interested in Kilman. The defender’s consistent performance for Wolves last season and his Premier League experience make him a prime target for Newcastle.
Despite Wolves’ financial needs, they prefer to retain Kilman, who has been linked with a £30 million move in the past.
Callum Wilson’s Uncertain Future
The interest in Calvert-Lewin casts uncertainty over Callum Wilson’s future at Newcastle. Wilson, who is also entering the final year of his contract, has had an injury-plagued season.
While manager Eddie Howe values Wilson, the club is mindful of Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. Retaining Wilson for another season might not be feasible if it means losing him for free next year.
Consequently, Newcastle is considering selling him this summer, with a move to the Saudi Arabian Pro League being a potential option.
Yankuba Minteh’s Market Value
Newcastle is looking to generate funds through player sales, and Yankuba Minteh has been identified as a key candidate.
Minteh joined Newcastle last summer for around £6 million but has not made a senior appearance for the club. Instead, he impressed on loan at Feyenoord, helping them win the Dutch Cup.
Newcastle is now poised to sell Minteh for approximately £40 million, with strong interest from abroad, including clubs like Roma, Borussia Dortmund, and Marseille.
Minteh’s agent, Bakary Bojang, confirmed the player’s availability, stating that they are in communication with several clubs and have already agreed on terms with one, pending Newcastle’s approval.
Newcastle United’s proactive approach in the transfer market underscores their ambition to enhance their squad ahead of the new season.
The potential acquisitions of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Max Kilman, coupled with strategic player sales, reflect a well-considered plan to comply with FFP regulations while aiming for a competitive edge in the Premier League.
As negotiations continue, Newcastle fans eagerly await the finalization of these crucial deals, hoping for a strengthened and balanced team ready to tackle the challenges of the upcoming season.
