Italian media claim 108-goal striker will snub new contract in favour of Newcastle United transfer

The summer transfer window is heating up, and Newcastle United find themselves at the center of another high-profile rumor—this time involving Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic.
The Serbian international, who has racked up an impressive 108 goals in 277 career appearances across spells at Partizan Belgrade, Fiorentina, and Juventus, could be on the move as the Italian giants look to avoid losing him for free next summer.
With Juventus reportedly open to offers, Newcastle have emerged as a potential destination, though they face stiff competition from Turkish powerhouses Fenerbahce and Galatasaray.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, incoming Juventus director Damien Comolli has been tasked with resolving Vlahovic’s future—whether through a contract extension or a sale.
However, the report suggests the 24-year-old is more inclined to seek a new challenge rather than commit to fresh terms in Turin. This has put several clubs on alert, with Newcastle among those monitoring the situation.
Vlahovic’s pedigree is undeniable. Over the past five seasons, he has consistently delivered strong numbers, netting 21, 29, 14, 18, and 15 goals respectively—a testament to his reliability in front of goal.
For Newcastle, a player of his caliber would provide invaluable competition for Alexander Isak, though his arrival would likely come with significant wage demands and no guarantee of a starting role.
Some reports, including those from Tuttojuve, have even suggested a potential swap deal involving Sandro Tonali, with Vlahovic and Douglas Luiz moving in the opposite direction.
However, such speculation should be taken with a grain of salt, as Newcastle are unlikely to entertain losing Tonali after his promising adaptation to Premier League football.
That said, the Magpies do have a positive working relationship with Juventus, having recently agreed on a £20 million deal for Lloyd Kelly following an initial loan.

Newcastle’s Striker Hunt Takes Center Stage
Eddie Howe is determined to strengthen his attacking options this summer, particularly with Callum Wilson’s contract set to expire and the club missing out on Liam Delap, who chose Chelsea over a move to St. James’ Park. The need for a proven backup to Isak is clear, especially with Champions League football returning to Tyneside.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin remains on Newcastle’s radar as a potential free-agent signing, but Vlahovic represents a more ambitious target. His physicality, clinical finishing, and experience at the highest level make him an ideal candidate to share the goalscoring burden with Isak.
Last season’s injury struggles—particularly in Europe—highlighted the risks of relying too heavily on one forward, and Howe will be eager to avoid a repeat.
While Isak enjoyed a mostly injury-free campaign, he did play through a minor groin issue in the latter stages, which slightly diminished his impact.
Fortunately, it didn’t derail Newcastle’s historic season, which saw them lift the Carabao Cup and secure a return to the Champions League. But with ambitions of competing on multiple fronts, squad depth will be crucial.
The Financial and Tactical Considerations
Signing a player of Vlahovic’s stature won’t come cheap. Juventus will demand a substantial fee, and his wages would likely place him among Newcastle’s highest earners.
However, with Financial Fair Play (FFP) constraints always a consideration, the club must weigh whether such an investment makes sense for a player who may not be an automatic starter.
From a tactical perspective, Vlahovic’s presence would give Howe more flexibility. He could operate as a traditional No. 9, allowing Isak to drift wide or play in a deeper role, or he could lead the line in cup competitions and European fixtures to keep the Swedish star fresh.
His aerial ability and hold-up play would also offer a different dimension against physical defenses.
Competition and the Road Ahead
Newcastle aren’t the only club in the mix, and Fenerbahce and Galatasaray’s interest adds another layer of complexity.
While the Turkish clubs may struggle to match Newcastle’s financial power, they can offer Vlahovic guaranteed playing time and a starring role—something he may prioritize at this stage of his career.
For now, the Magpies must decide whether to push forward with a formal bid or explore more cost-effective alternatives.
With the transfer window in full swing, one thing is certain: Eddie Howe and the Newcastle hierarchy are working tirelessly to ensure they enter the new season with a squad capable of challenging on all fronts.
If they can pull off a deal for Vlahovic, it would send a powerful message to their rivals. If not, the search for a top-tier striker will continue—and time is of the essence.
