Isak have now handed PSG lifeline as £40M breakthrough triggers transfer move

Alexander Isak’s future at Newcastle United has taken another twist, with a fresh route emerging that could finally lead to his long-anticipated exit.
The Swedish striker has made no secret of his desire to leave St James’ Park, and while Liverpool remain the primary suitors, their pursuit has been stalled by Newcastle’s unwavering £150 million valuation.
For weeks, talks have been deadlocked, with the Magpies unwilling to compromise and the Reds reluctant to meet the steep asking price. However, a chain of events involving Paris Saint-Germain, Aston Villa, and Newcastle’s own transfer business may now present the breakthrough Isak has been waiting for.
The 25-year-old’s frustration has only grown as Newcastle’s search for his potential replacement has hit setback after setback.
Hugo Ekitike, Benjamin Sesko, and Joao Pedro were all on Eddie Howe’s radar but ultimately slipped away, leaving the Magpies without a clear successor should Isak depart.
With just days before their Premier League opener against Aston Villa, the situation looked increasingly tense. Ironically, it is Villa themselves who may have opened the door for the Swedish international’s move away.

Unai Emery’s side are reportedly in talks to bring Marco Asensio back from PSG, where the Spanish forward has been on the fringes. Asensio, who spent a productive loan spell at Villa Park last season scoring eight goals in 21 appearances remains a popular figure with the club’s hierarchy.
PSG are open to the deal, but Villa need to generate funds to make it happen. That has led them to negotiate the sale of midfielder Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle, with a deal potentially being wrapped up within the week.
The Ramsey transfer serves multiple purposes for Villa. Financially, the 24-year-old’s homegrown status means his sale will directly improve the club’s standing under Financial Fair Play regulations.
For Newcastle, his arrival bolsters their attacking options from midfield, giving them additional firepower in the final third.
That added depth could, in turn, convince the Magpies they are better positioned to sanction Isak’s departure without weakening the squad’s offensive threat.
Isak has reportedly made it clear to those inside the club that he no longer wishes to play for Newcastle. The possible signing of Ramsey might strengthen his case to push harder for an exit, with PSG now emerging as a potential destination alongside Liverpool.
The French giants are expected to explore their striker options before the transfer deadline, and Isak’s profile fits their current recruitment strategy.
Liverpool, however, remain firmly in the race and have until the 7pm deadline on September 1 to get the deal done. In a twist of fate, their fixture against Newcastle at St James’ Park on August 25 could see Isak line up either against his current employers or in their colours one final time.
The Reds’ most recent bid of £110 million plus add-ons fell short, but after raising funds through the sales of Darwin Núñez and Tyler Morton, they are now in a position to return with an improved offer.
For Isak, the clock is ticking, but the pathway out of Newcastle is finally beginning to take shape. Whether his next home is Anfield or the Parc des Princes, the coming weeks promise high drama both on and off the pitch.
