Dan Burn breaks bone as Newcastle star speaks out after England beat Wales

Dan Burn has confirmed that he broke a bone in his hand during Newcastle United’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest, but the defender insists the injury won’t keep him out of action.

Despite the setback, the Blyth-born star made it clear that he has no plans to join the growing list of injured Newcastle players.

Burn, who was named among the substitutes for England’s 3-0 victory over Wales, admitted that he was eager to play at Wembley but is now focused on being fit and ready for England’s next match against Latvia in Riga.

The 32-year-old was spotted training at St George’s Park with his hand wrapped in a bandage, raising questions about his condition.

However, Burn quickly dismissed any concerns, assuring fans and coaches alike that the injury is not serious enough to keep him sidelined.

He explained that he is fully fit to play for England and will be ready to return to Premier League action when Newcastle face his former club Brighton next weekend.

In a chat with ChronicleLive, Burn shared how the injury happened, saying, “I actually broke my hand, but I don’t even know exactly when it happened. I think I went to grab someone during the game and then I felt a crack.

It was early in the second half, so I went for a scan and saw a specialist.” He went on to add, “I’ve been told I can play with it. I’m ready for Latvia, ready for Newcastle, and honestly, I’d have been ready to play tonight too.”

The news came as a relief for Newcastle fans, especially considering the club’s current injury woes.

Eddie Howe’s side has already lost key players like Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall, and Yoane Wissa to more serious and long-term injuries.

The last thing Newcastle needed was another defensive absence, particularly with Burn’s leadership and consistency being crucial to their backline.

Burn’s determination to play through the pain reflects the fighter’s mentality he’s shown since returning to his boyhood club. “I won’t be missing any time for a broken hand,” he said confidently. “This is nothing compared to some of the injuries I’ve had before. I’m ready to go and ready to play.”

He also took a moment to praise his teammates’ effort in the recent England performance, saying, “Everyone is fighting for each other, and I thought the first half an hour was brilliant.

It was really, really good. Now the thing for us is to keep that energy going all game. At 3-0 up, maybe we took our foot off the gas a little bit, but overall, it was a great performance.”

Burn’s fighting spirit and willingness to play through discomfort underline his commitment to both club and country.

As Newcastle prepare for their next Premier League challenge and England continue their World Cup qualifying campaign, the defender’s toughness and resilience will be key assets.

With a winning mentality and an unwavering desire to contribute, Dan Burn once again proves why he’s one of Newcastle’s most dependable and hard-working players.

His ability to push through the pain barrier not only sets an example for younger players but also highlights the passion and grit that define this current Newcastle squad.

The broken hand may be a minor setback, but for Burn, it’s just another challenge to overcome and one he’s more than ready to face head-on.
