Anthony Gordon transfer reality now clear for Liverpool as new details emerge

As the summer transfer window progresses, Liverpool fans have been eagerly awaiting news of new signings. While the club has yet to announce any major acquisitions, it doesn’t mean things are stagnant behind the scenes.

New sporting director Richard Hughes hinted earlier this month that significant activity would ramp up in August. With recent developments regarding a potential swap deal involving Anthony Gordon and Joe Gomez, the transfer market could soon heat up for Liverpool.

Joe Gomez and Anthony Gordon Swap Deal Proposed

The Daily Mail recently reported that a potential swap deal between Anthony Gordon and Joe Gomez was discussed a few weeks ago. Gomez, who desires regular playing time at center-back, might be open to a move.

However, no bids have been made for the England international since talks with Newcastle concluded. The Magpies managed their PSR concerns by selling Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh instead, which halted the deal.

Despite this, Liverpool remains interested in acquiring Gordon. Newcastle’s initial asking price of $96 million (£75 million/€89 million) for the 23-year-old forward, with $58 million (£45 million/€53 million) allocated for Gomez, indicates Liverpool’s strong interest in the winger and Newcastle’s willingness to negotiate.

Although Newcastle’s urgency to sell has diminished, Gordon’s valuation may have increased, especially since his contract has only two years remaining.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Gordon is far from over. Even if a deal isn’t finalized this summer, the Reds may still be interested in signing him next year when he would be 24 and Newcastle’s negotiating position weaker. Gordon, reportedly keen on moving to Anfield, remains a prime target for Liverpool.

Newcastle, however, is unlikely to let Gordon go without a fight. Departing Newcastle board member Amanda Staveley recently expressed her concerns to The Athletic about potentially losing Gordon or Alexander Isak amid pressure to sell players before June 30. Newcastle’s relief at retaining both players underscores their importance to the club.

Even if Liverpool doesn’t secure Gordon this summer, they should remain interested. The winger’s peak years are still ahead of him, and he is said to desire a move to Liverpool.

The ECHO has reported that any move for Gordon is “far from dead,” leaving open the possibility of a deal before the transfer window closes on August 30. If a reasonable opportunity arises, Liverpool is likely to seize it, demonstrating the importance of patience in the transfer market.

Liverpool’s transfer strategy this summer emphasizes patience and opportunism. While no major signings have been announced yet, the club’s interest in Anthony Gordon indicates they are still active in the market.

The proposed swap deal involving Joe Gomez highlights Liverpool’s creative approach to securing top talent. As the transfer window progresses, fans can expect more developments and potential signings that will strengthen the squad for the upcoming season
