‘Offers are expected’ for Newcastle United player – Magpies sale nailed on

Odysseas Vlachodimos’ time at Newcastle United already feels like a brief chapter that is quietly drawing to a close. The Greek goalkeeper arrived with expectations but found opportunities hard to come by, managing just one appearance for the Magpies last season.

With first-team minutes clearly limited, a decision was made in August for him to spend the campaign on loan at Sevilla, a move that has quickly worked in his favour.

Since arriving in Spain, Vlachodimos has become a regular presence between the posts. He made his Sevilla debut in September and has barely looked back since, establishing himself as a trusted option in goal.

In 14 appearances so far, he has recorded three clean sheets while conceding 20 goals, figures that reflect both his consistency and the heavy workload he has often faced. More importantly, his calmness and experience have added stability to a side that has endured a turbulent period.

The goalkeeper himself has made no secret of how settled he feels in La Liga. On two separate occasions this month, Vlachodimos has publicly expressed his happiness in Spain, speaking positively about his role and his surroundings.

Reports in the Spanish media have gone a step further, suggesting that his representatives have already indicated a desire to extend his stay beyond the current loan deal. That stance only reinforces the impression that his future lies away from Tyneside.

Spanish outlet AS has described Vlachodimos as one of the key players under Sevilla boss Matías Almeyda, a significant compliment given the competitive nature of the squad.

His performances have not gone unnoticed, and with each assured display, his value and appeal continue to grow. Ironically, that form may make it harder for Sevilla to keep hold of him. While the club would love to retain him, every strong showing increases the likelihood of outside interest.

As things stand, Vlachodimos is still under contract with Newcastle United until 2028 and is technically expected to return once his loan spell ends.

However, reports from Spain are clear in their assessment that he is highly unlikely to remain at St James’ Park. With offers expected to arrive in the near future, a permanent departure looks increasingly inevitable.

Sevilla’s financial situation complicates matters further. The club is currently operating under tight constraints and would struggle to meet both a significant transfer fee and the goalkeeper’s salary demands.

Newcastle are covering part of his wages during the loan, a support that would not continue if a permanent deal were to be negotiated. While Transfermarkt currently values Vlachodimos at around €4 million, Spanish reports are confident that Newcastle would demand a far higher figure, especially given his contract length and recent performances.

This creates a scenario where Sevilla admire the player but may be priced out of a move, opening the door for other clubs to step in. Vlachodimos’ experience at international level, combined with his solid displays in Spain, make him an attractive option for teams in need of a reliable goalkeeper.

From Newcastle’s perspective, a sale would make sense. He is not part of Eddie Howe’s long-term plans, and moving him on would free up wages while generating funds that could be reinvested elsewhere.

All signs now point towards a summer exit. Vlachodimos has found regular football, confidence, and appreciation in Spain, while Newcastle appear ready to listen to offers.

Whether he remains in La Liga or moves on to a new challenge, his future beyond this season looks set to be far away from the Magpies.
