Miguel Almiron has shared a touching moment from his personal life, and the reaction from his former Newcastle United teammates shows just how well loved he still is on Tyneside.
The Paraguayan winger, who became a fan favourite during his six-year spell at St. James’ Park, posted a series of photos on Instagram celebrating his wedding to his long-time partner, Alexia Notto. The update quickly drew attention from supporters and former colleagues who were eager to congratulate him.
Almiron first arrived at Newcastle in January 2019, joining from MLS side Atlanta United in a move that gave the club a much-needed spark. Over the years, he went on to make more than 220 appearances for the Magpies in all competitions.
His pace, work rate and positive attitude made him one of the most admired figures in the squad. During his time at the club, he scored 30 goals and provided 12 assists, leaving a strong legacy both on and off the pitch.
Earlier this year, his Newcastle journey came to an end when he made a permanent return to Atlanta in an £8million deal during the final days of the January transfer window.

Since rejoining his former team, he has continued to play an important role, making 33 appearances in the 2025 season so far and scoring six goals. Despite the move back to the United States, he has maintained close relationships with many of his former teammates.
His wedding photos triggered a wave of warm messages from those who played alongside him. Callum Wilson, who also left Newcastle earlier this year to join West Ham on a free transfer, was one of the first to comment, writing a simple but heartfelt: “Congratulations miggy bro.”
Young forward William Osula, who continues to push for a bigger role in Eddie Howe’s squad, also added his own tribute, calling Almiron a “legend” under the post.
Many other current and former Newcastle players showed their happiness for the winger by liking the post. Among them were Jacob Murphy, Sandro Tonali, Joelinton, Sean Longstaff, Paul Dummett, Allan Saint-Maximin, Kieran Trippier, Lewis Miley, Emil Krafth, Matt Targett, Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall and Isaac Hayden. Their reactions reflect the affection Almiron earned throughout his time at the club and the respect he still commands within the dressing room.
While Almiron enjoys a memorable moment in his personal life, Newcastle are focused on what is shaping up to be one of their most important matches of the season. The team had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League earlier in the week.
An early own goal from Bruno Guimaraes put Howe’s side under pressure, but they responded well with goals from Anthony Gordon and Lewis Miley. Unfortunately, a late strike from Alejandro Grimaldo denied them a much-needed victory and left the travelling supporters frustrated.
The attention now turns to the Wear-Tyne derby against Sunderland, a fixture loaded with emotion and history. Sunday’s match at the Stadium of Light will be the first Premier League meeting between the two rivals since March 2016, a season that ended in heartbreak for Newcastle as they were relegated.
Much has changed since then, with the club undergoing a major transformation following the 2021 takeover, resulting in stronger performances in domestic competitions and a return to European football.
Newcastle currently sit 12th in the Premier League table, while Sunderland have enjoyed a more positive start and are placed ninth. The short trip across the North East will not be an easy one, but Howe’s team will be determined to respond to recent results and deliver a performance worthy of the occasion.
Even as the focus moves to the derby, Almiron’s moment of happiness serves as a reminder of the human side of the game. Players come and go, but the bonds formed in the dressing room often last much longer.
His former teammates’ support shows how deeply he connected with the squad, and fans will no doubt be pleased to see him enjoying a new and joyful chapter in his life.
