Dan Burn has spoken out after visiting a specialist while on England duty, confirming that he has indeed suffered a broken hand but insists the injury is far from serious.

The Newcastle United defender, currently training with the England national team, reassured both fans and coaches that he remains fully fit and ready to play for both club and country despite the setback.

Burn and his Newcastle teammate Anthony Gordon are part of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad this week, with both players featuring in the setup as the Three Lions secured a comfortable 3-0 win over Wales at Wembley.

Gordon, who has quickly become a trusted player under Tuchel, played the full 90 minutes, while Burn was named among the substitutes.

England’s goals came early in the game, with Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka all finding the net within the opening 20 minutes to secure an easy victory.

Although Burn didn’t feature against Wales, the towering defender is expected to play a part in England’s next outing against Latvia.

The upcoming fixture could seal England’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup, and Burn is determined to be involved.

Despite his recent injury, he confirmed that he will be fully available for selection and has no intention of sitting out.

The 32-year-old was recently spotted at St. George’s Park with his left hand heavily strapped, sparking concerns among fans and media.

However, Burn clarified that the injury was sustained during Newcastle’s 2-0 Premier League win over Nottingham Forest and that he has since been given the green light to continue playing.

After undergoing a scan and consulting a specialist while with the England medical team, Burn received confirmation that the injury was only a minor fracture and that he could continue playing with protective support.

Speaking to Chronicle Live, Burn shared how the injury happened in typical no-nonsense fashion. “I actually broke my hand, but I don’t even know exactly how I did it,” he said with a smile.

“I think I went to grab someone and felt a crack. It was early in the second half, so I went for a scan and saw a specialist. I’ve been told I can play with it. I’m ready for Latvia, I’m ready for Newcastle, and honestly, I’d have been ready to play tonight.”

He also dismissed any suggestion that he might need a break, insisting that a minor hand injury won’t slow him down. “I won’t be missing any time for a broken hand,” Burn said confidently. “This is nothing. I’ve had worse injuries than this. I’m ready to go and ready to play.”

His attitude will come as a major relief to Eddie Howe and Newcastle fans, given the club’s mounting injury list. The Magpies are already struggling with several key absences, and losing another senior defender would have been a serious concern.

With full-backs Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall both sidelined, Burn has recently been moved back to his familiar left-back role to help fill the gap. His experience, leadership, and defensive stability have been vital during this period of disruption.

Newcastle’s injury woes have piled up quickly this season. New summer signing Yoane Wissa has yet to make his debut after picking up an injury during the September international break.

Fellow newcomer Jacob Ramsey has played less than an hour of competitive football for the club due to ongoing fitness issues.

These setbacks have left Howe short of options, particularly in defense and midfield, forcing him to make tactical adjustments to maintain balance in the squad.

Had Burn been sidelined, Howe would likely have been forced to call upon fringe players like Emil Krafth or youngster Alex Murphy to step into the starting lineup.

Alternatively, he might have considered switching formations, possibly deploying Jacob Murphy as a wing-back to compensate for the loss. Fortunately for Newcastle, that scenario won’t be necessary, as Burn’s willingness to play through the injury ensures much-needed continuity in defense.

The veteran defender’s toughness and professionalism are nothing new to fans. Since returning to his boyhood club, Burn has embodied the fighting spirit Newcastle supporters love.

His commitment to the badge and his willingness to put his body on the line reflect his deep connection to both the club and the city. Whether it’s a broken hand or a bruised rib, Burn’s response is always the same: get on with it and give everything on the pitch.

As England prepare for their trip to Riga and Newcastle look ahead to another busy stretch of fixtures, Burn’s resilience will be invaluable. His presence in the dressing room provides reassurance to teammates and coaches alike.

While the club continues to manage a crowded treatment room, Burn’s determination to keep going through pain is exactly the kind of attitude Eddie Howe wants from his senior players.

For now, fans can breathe a sigh of relief Dan Burn’s injury isn’t serious, and the towering defender will continue to wear the black and white stripes with pride. His broken hand may be an inconvenience, but for a player of Burn’s mentality, it’s little more than a scratch.
